Contests - Why they should be a part of your Marketing Strategy

Although contests have been around for years and years, they have taken on new growth and popularity with the drive of social media. People love the word FREE. It carries much influence and has long been used to attract customers. Back in the 50's and 60's you would see contests advertised in magazines but now with all the social media platforms to choose from, the possibilities are endless. 

If you have not made contests or giveaways a part of your marketing strategy yet, it's not too late, start now! I'm here to tell you three reasons why:

1. Contests enable you to engage your audience and gain new fans!
While racking up a number of new followers is a major benefit of hosting a contest on social media, it also allows for you to connect more with your followers. Your audience becomes engaged through sharing, comments, and much more and once they've entered they become invested in your brand. It is human nature to compete and people get a rush out of entering a contest with the slight possibility that they may win something free. This is an opportunity to increase your page likes and boost your popularity! 

2. Contests are an open invitation for consumers to do the marketing for you!
Contests are a perfect way to get hundreds if not thousands of your fans to spread the word themselves. With the right marketing strategy in place and through the use of social media and the power of your message, it will help drive consumers to promote, promote, promote! With the added component of getting more entries if shared with friends and family, this can help amplify traffic to your contest as a result of consumers marketing to other consumers organically. 

3. Receive valuable data through Contests! 
If someone is presented with a chance to play or compete in something, they play to win. Contests are no exception because with the tease of a prize on the other end, people are prepared to share their information for a chance. Now, it's important to remember, we can't introduce too many obstacles or we'll miss the opportunity for that entry and to learn more about that individual moving forward (i.e., what their favorite product/service is of yours, how they heard about the promotion, ect.). It's important to note that in return for their data that they are providing as part of the entry process, you will be keeping that information safe and won't be selling it to third parties. 

So there are many benefits of running a contest across social media, just remember, for a minimal investment, you can get tremendous reach for your brand. You just have to make it a goal of yours to get started.
